As far as I know, last night was the first time Conan O'Brien ever appeared in my dreams.

I stayed home today because I'd been feeling under the weather, and hadn't seen any TV since going to bed at around 8 p.m. last night. So this morning, my wife and son and I started watching TV when I said to my wife, "You know, I had the strangest dream last night. I dreamed that we kept seeing Conan O'Brien around town during the daytime and he was clean shaven, but during his new shows at night he still had his strike beard. So basically, we discovered that his strike beard was fake!"

I'm not sure, but I might have received the ole eye roll as a response.

Anyway, I then realized that we probably had a new Late Night with Conan O'Brien show to watch on the DVR, recorded last night while we were all asleep. Sure enough, we did, so I started it, and zipped through the theme song. Right away, we could see that he no longer had his strike beard. My wife and I looked at each other and I did a Conan "Huh??!" which I do all the time to show exaggerated surprise.

Then I figured, well, the writer's strike is still on, so maybe this is a repeat. However, his opening comments about the South Carolina primaries quickly revealed that this was a new show. I guess he just got tired of the beard, as did David Letterman with his own a few weeks ago. (I was a Dave fan from the early 1980's through the late 1990's, but don't watch him much anymore as I just don't think he's funny anymore... I prefer Conan).

So indeed this was a new show, he was revealing to the world for the first time that he had shaved off his strike beard (grown to show sympathy for the writers guild and their strike), and I had just happened to choose his beard and/or lack of one as a topic for my only memorable dream of the night. Unbelieveable, right?

I said to my wife, "I'm glad I told you about my dream before we started watching this, because you never would have believed me if I told you now."

To which Ben replied, "Maybe you're still dreaming!"
