Happy 70th Birthday, Batman!

Batman's first appearance - Detective Comics #27, May 1939

My first Batman memory: seeing the Joker running down the street in a Batman cartoon sometime in the late 1960s. Next: Superfriends, 1973. Then: the excellent Batman comics of the 1970s (considered by most geeks to be his best run), reruns of the campy 1960s Batman TV show (my enjoyment of this gave me my junior high nickname), initial intense interest and then rejection of the movie series that began in 1989, universal love of the animated series that ran through the 1990s and the subsequent ones it inspired, on through to the excellent Dark Knight movie of last year….

You could say that the Caped Crusader has been a big part of my life all my life, so I must offer a tip of the cowl on his 70th anniversary, and look forward to many more.
