Back from our second Minnesota trip of 2006 to visit in-laws, most of whom are very nice. Enjoyed a Saturday night excursion to the Columbia Heights area to seek out Heights Theater (est. 1926), the oldest continuously running cinema in Minneapolis. Features ornate interiors (enhanced by Christmas decorations), yet unlike larger fancy movie palaces I have seen, the acoustics are great which makes movie watching a real pleasure. 20 minutes of live Christmas music played on a Wurlizter organ preceeded the show... Sweet Land, an independent period romantic drama shot in Minnesota depicting early settlers of the region.
Had a rare date night featuring dinner with Cory and Beth, and drove back overnight in what would have been record time if I had not diverted into downtown Indianapolis to see its Christmas lights (at 6 in the morning). I did not have any nostalgic feelings whilst in Indy.... I must be over it at last. Either that or pulling an all-nighter when I'm past 40 affects me more than I thought it would.
